Conducting interview at CCK

Conducting interview at the CCk was not so effective as many people refused to be approached.
It was only about office workers were willing to take time to answer our questions.
Most of the bus Drivers were not Singaporeans hence it was harder for us to communicate and understand the situation that is happening on the bus.

The conclusion of the whole interview was that, people need to manage their time wisely in order not to encounter with packed bus.

The other main reason will be that, people are too absorb to their electronic gadgets that they often pay no attention to their surrounding.

The conclusion of the interview will be that, being socially awareness should be taught since young.

This bus was created with care and much details by me and some editing from classmate, the measurements were not stated because it was hard to measure the whole bus. Can you imagine you taking measurement of the bus, big bus in fact.

Why people do not move in on the bus or train?
-From my point of view it’s a very basic mentality to be considerate of people on board. I found a story of a really
inconsiderate lady on board.

It was a story a lady who is inconsiderate and did not want to move in even when she’s sitting down. It was concerning people in need but how about those normal officers, students and adults on board?

-From a blogger who had been taking bus for very long time confession of selfish passengers. Some comments and experiences are that “Some old uncle and aunties will sit at the side.
Put their plastic bags on the seats and even when crowded, they ignore then just act like nothing happened” and “ Then there are times people don't know how to move in. Uncle always ends up shouting. That's why you can go in from exit. You tap in front then go in from exit.”

This is just one problem faced on this one particular bus and imagine how much of this can occur on other many more buses because of selfish act.

-From a you tuber , from her point of view , she mentioned about bus driver ( who I want to emphasize on ) they do not tell you to move in and all just because they’re lazy or shy or whatsoever. I guess it is bus captain’s duty to make an enough space for everybody. She’s a foreigner but I’ve seen cases like this in Singapore too.

- Info from friends and classmates , the Reponses are really differ from another but the main point drive down to that people are selfish .
In conclusion on my point of view is that , the mentality of people that is causing the problem of “ people do not move in on the bus/train “

HOW DO WE IMPROVE THE SITUATION?

We can improve it by learning to take initiative, giving space to the people who needs it.

Furthermore we must be less nosy 

There are some factors that could be provided by the buses or a train is that by inserting more handlers/poles for passengers to be balanced.

The next main thing would be being considerate and kind to people, not forgetting that we should treat each other with respect

1.elderly

-Not being able to balance hence hanging on to wherever is more convenient for them

-Lesser energy

-Staying close to the door.

Q: Your opinions on why people do not move in on the bus/train?

Answer: As they are lazy to move or they want to stand near the exit, as it is more convenient for them. when the front person have that mindset, people behind may follow suit. Some not able to see there is more space or just don’t bother to squeeze through. 

Q: What do you think they are thinking?

Answer: “I don’t have to do it they will do it?”

Q: Will you move in?

Answer: of course, why not?

Q: what will be the reason, if you’re the one not moving in?

Answer: one of the reason might be that I am falling asleep, not everyone is tall enough to reach the pole hence, I am  standing at one place, not moving in.

Q: why people do not move in on the bus/train?

Answer: Perhaps they want to move, but seeing as others don’t move, hence they do not dare to take initiative?

Q: What is your opinion on them?

Answer: lets see. My opinion on them is that they should take the initiative and move to the back of the bus/middle of the Mrt and be more considerate towards their fellow commuters. I feel the people who refuse to budge even though being prompted to be highly inconsiderate, and perhaps bus drivers should be given the right to extrude the defiant commuter from the vehicle if acts of defiance from the person persist.

Q: tell me more about your journey with Mrt..

Answer: As I leave as early as 6am, I do not experience any overcrowding but it is mostly commuters and students. The late morning, afternoon and night trains on weekdays are often crowded packed mostly commuters.

Q: what do you feel about the situation on MRTs?

Answer: I feel people are mostly considerate in MRTs and move to the center of the train if needed

Answer: people don’t move in as they want to stand nearer to the exit for the convenience, 

Q: why should they move in?

Answer: they should move in because other people waiting at the bus stop wants to get up the bus too, they should make full use of the spaces in the bus.

personal experience during peak hours.

last week , i decided to take the bus during peak hours and braved myself to take some pictures on the bus. The experience was not very pleasant , seeing that most of the people love standing near the exit, the exit must be pretty attractive yeah?

yeah , standing near the door is cool? not cool at all.

there was space to move in yet some just chose to stay near the door.

case study: singapore

before this post was on the interviewing on the people from other country , hence this post will be on the singaporean poly student who has been travelling with MRT for the whole 3 years of his study journey. He willingly share his experiences on the train and the comments he had.

2.1 Case Study

Going deeper into the situation by doing further research in comparing the situation that is happening in South-East Asia.

conducted an interview from other countries like,Philippines , india , indonesia and singapore as it was not easy to find over the internet and below are the answers given by the people from other country.

The bottom answers are given by a mid 20 years old Philippines citizen ( formerly ) who lived for quite sometimes in Philippines and who knew very well about the transportation in Philippines. ( fig 2.1a ) Furthermore , he went on to explain more in details if the passengers move in. ( fig 2.1b ) going on to deeper details , i asked him about how did they made use of the situation they faced.

it was an interview with a teenager girl from india , who had lived 18 years of her life in india to share some info on their public transport. She was not used to public transport but she told me what she had seen and telling me a rough image of the situation over there. What type of transportation were there ( fig 2.1d)

WHO SHOULD WE EMPATHIZE ON.

Basically , i think that we should focus on the youngsters who are still learning . As to categorise them , i want to focus on the primary and secondary school students . I chose this age group because they are in the process of learning and really active youngsters at their age .

To elaborate further on choosing this group is because if we're to tell people from the older or younger group , there are high chance that they will probably forget or do not understand even though it is basic mentality that we should move in on the bus/train.

I chose the younger age group because they're really tiny and fast at their age . They learn really fast too. Example , if there were youngsters and old age groups of people , youngster are active and swift when they are moving about while old people take a little bit longer time to move about and it it easier for them to move about. 

As for the learning process , they will remember it for a long while before the graduation and to the next stage of working or studying further. hence , i chose this age group for them to remember it for life . i believe primary and secondary kids are easier to shape up then comparing to really young kids to the adulthood.

being in the age of learning , i will definitely remember things fast. If my teacher taught me to move in on the bus or train i will bid by it. 

jumping into the real scenario ~~

i board onto the pretty empty bus with mega space for me to stand anywhere i like . i chose a spot near the door because its easier for me to move. As the bus moves on , there comes a stop with many people waiting to board on the bus ( it was a peak hour ) .

 So , i remember what my teacher taught me to be considerate and to move in. i will be squeezed from the people anyways , so i moved in really fast because i was light and skinny . And there comes my stop , so i just said " excuse me! " and squeezed my way through . It is such an simple act to put .
It is a matter of mentality to be considerate towards others .

 oh yes , this happens a lot on public transport . There are many possible reasons and excuses that was given by the passengers on board . The main reason will be that they like to stick to the door because it is very convenient for them but its pretty selfish isn't it?personally i like to stand near the door if my alighting stop is very soon.

further more , people who board the public transport after a massive shopping would like to stand at where he/she been standing even if the bus started to get full . They will stick to where they are like being superglued to that certain spot, refusing to move in.

Another problem is that people doesn't like to be touched by another person on the bus like as if another person has some dangerous deadly virus that will kill you in instant hence , they would stand apart from another with a distance , occupying a space to two than for one .There are cases whereby a passenger would even wipe the seats before he/she get seated. They are really cautious of what might comes from unknown stranger.
On the other hand , it might be because they want their own privacy , so they will distance themselves from others. But seriously ? i don't think everyone is that nosy to take at look at you with full attention all the time unless you're a celebrity.

Furthermore, the bus itself could be a problem for people to unable to move in during the ride , the 1st problem would be that the bus lanes are narrow , only allowing a limited space for a passengers to stand  and definitely moving in doesnt solve the problem too. imagine a person is fat and definitely cant afford the other passenger to pass. thus , people dont move in .

Another problem would be that , there are limited handlers , which allow passengers to be on their balance , even i myself need a handler to stand on where i am , hence , most people will stick to the space near the handlers not allowing other passengers to move in .
